James Sprayberry is a founding member of VFW Post 12223 in Montgomery, Texas, and was elected as the Post Junior Vice Commander when the post was chartered on July 1, 2023.
Comrade Sprayberry began his military service in 1998 when he enlisted in the United States Navy. He honorably served until 2002 and earned several recognitions for his dedication and professionalism.
Continuing his commitment to service, he joined the United States Army National Guard in 2004 as a Heavy Equipment Operator. During his time in the Army National Guard, he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III from 2004 to 2005. His service during this deployment established his eligibility for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He later received an Honorable Discharge following his service.
During his time in the U.S. Navy, his awards and qualifications included the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, and the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualification.
While serving in the Army National Guard, his awards and decorations included the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal.
Through his continued involvement with VFW Post 12223, Comrade Sprayberry remains dedicated to supporting veterans, serving the community, and upholding the mission and values of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
